ABOUT US

Solid Rock Christian Servicemen’s Center is a Multi-Denominational Pentecostal Church affiliated with the Church of God (Cleveland, TN) and located in St. John's Community Center.  Our mission is to fulfill Jesus’ Commandment to "Go" as we reach out to the Mildenhall/Lakenheath community in evangelism, teaching and training. Our ministry puts strong emphasis on three primary facets of the Christian life. These are Knowing (knowing God, and knowing His word), Being, (focusing on becoming men and women after God’s own heart), and Doing (using our gifts and talents to reach a world separated from Christ). All of these take place within a Word Centered, Spirit-Filled Community of Faith in which every member is considered a "Minister."

WHAT WE BELIEVE

  • In the verbal inspiration of the Bible.
  • In one God eternally existing in three persons; namely: the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit.
  • That Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of the Father, conceived of the Holy Ghost, and born of the Virgin Mary. That Jesus was crucified, buried and raised from the dead. That He ascended to heaven and is today at the right hand of the Father as the Intercessor.
  • That all have sinned and come short of the glory of God and that repentance is commanded of God for all and necessary for forgiveness of sins.
  • That justification, regeneration, and the new birth are wrought by faith in the blood of Jesus Christ.
  • In sanctification subsequent to the new birth, through faith in the blood of Christ, through the Word, and by the Holy Spirit.
  • Holiness to be God's standard of living for his people.
  • In the baptism of the Holy Spirit subsequent to a clean heart.
  • In speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance and that it is the initial evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
  • In water baptism by immersion, and all who repent should be baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
  • Divine healing is provided for all in the atonement.
  • In the Lord's Supper and washing of the saint's feet.
  • In the pre-millennial second coming of Jesus. First, to resurrect the righteous dead and catch away the living saints to Him in the air. Second, to reign on the earth a thousand years.
  • In the bodily resurrection: eternal life for the righteous, and eternal punishment for the wicked.

CHURCH LEADERSHIP

ABOUT THE PASTOR

Pastor Tom and ErleneTom and Erlene Burton have been the Pastors of Solid Rock Christian Servicemen's Center since November 18, 2005.  Ministry to the Military is a new ministry for them but it is not their first encounter with it.  Their oldest son Phillip serves as the servicemen's center director at K-Town Germany.  They visited with him at K-Town in April 2005 and shortly thereafter felt called to Ministry to the Military.

Erlene was born on a Naval Base in Charleston, South Carolina however was raised in her home of Alabama.  She met Tom at Lee University and shortly thereafter married.  She graduated from Lee University with an Associates in Arts.  Tom was just starting his degree at Lee University so she spent many years there.

Tom was born and raised in Chattanooga TN.  After his conversion he felt directed to attend Lee Bible College, now Lee University, where he recieved his BS in Biblical Education in 1969.  His first pastorate was at Maui, HI in the fun and the sun.  They continued on to Pastor in the midwest before he went back to attend Church of God School of Theology.  There he recieved his MS in Pastoral Studies in 1980.  He continued to complete cousleing studies from Emerge Ministries in Akron, Ohio.

The Burton's have two sons Phillip and Mark who are both in ministry.  Phillip as said before is the serviceman's center director at K-Town, Germany.  Their youngest Mark is a youth pastor in Panama City Beach (more fun in the sun).  Between them they have given Pastor Tom and Erlene four fabulous grandchildren who are just "perfect!"

Pastor Tom and Erlene work as a team in everything they do including their ministry and preparing the word.  They are excited about their new ministry at Solid Rock and look foward to this exciting opportunity in England.
